Competency 1

The first competency of the AU MPA program is “To lead and manage in public governance”. The coursework which I had chosen for this competency is Seminar in Leadership. This coursework helped me understand the different traits of leadership and management, the importance of emotional intelligence for a leader and the ethics that should be followed by a leader in a workplace. It also explains the quality management tools needed for a leader for exhibiting effective leadership and delivering quality output.

Team work Excellence Memo
The Team work Excellence memo assignment, is a part of the Seminar in leadership course. The assignment requires every student to write a memo to the professor containing experiences of a team work and the leadership qualities acquired, exhibited or learned while working in team. I had the experience of writing about my leadership style which I acquired and learnt while working as an engineer for an organization in India. Through this memo, I showcased my experiences working as a team and the importance of the responsibilities being a leader. The memo also contains certain incidents encountered by myself, as a leader which had taught me some valuable lessons, one such incident, where there was a fire accident on board a vessel which happened, when I was on a restroom break. This memo assignment made me understand and virtually experience the leadership roles in a public organization where I would be working in the future.Please click here to view my artifact.
Ethics Reflection
The Ethics reflection assignment is a part of the coursework for the seminar in leadership course. This assignment discusses in detail about the ethical framework of an employee in an organization. Ethics play an important role in shaping a person’s character and exhibiting these ethics at a work place determines the success rate of the employee and the quality output the employee contributes to an organization. My ethics reflection assignment focuses on the ICMA code of ethics. This assignment explains in detail about my personal views of every tenet of the ICMA code of ethics which helped me gain an understanding of the ethics followed in public service and the importance of it every in aspect of public service.
