Competency 2
​
The second competency in the AU MPA program is “To participate in and contribute to the public policy process”. The artifacts which I had chosen for this competency is the Policy analysis assignment from Seminar in Policy and analysis coursework and the Grant writing assignment from the Program Evaluation coursework. As stated in the competency these assignments helped me realize the participation in the public policy process. The policy analysis assignment helped me find a problem in the society and help me create a solution with alternatives. The grant writing assignment helped me come across the different variants in the nonprofit sector and helped me understand the valuable importance of grant writing.
Policy Analysis
The policy analysis assignment discusses in detail about the use of tobacco products among young adults in the state of Alabama. This assignment helped me frame a policy of increasing the tobacco consumption age from 19 to 21 in the State of Alabama. On finding more facts of tobacco usage among youngsters and comparing it with feasible solutions taken by other states in the country and the whole world. This assignment also proposes feasible alternatives which are weighed with a criteria alternative matrix (CAM).This helped me analyze the issue in detail and provide a feasible solution. Grant writing
The second assignment which I chose for this competency is the grant writing assignment for the Program evaluation coursework. This assignment involves preparation of a grant for the smoking cessation campaign in Alabama. This assignment explains in detail about the various aspects of grant writing and proposal of a grant analyzing every aspect of the available resources. The assignment is done as a joint effort by myself and Arvindh Sundar. Working together on this grant writing assignment helped understand the nuances of the coursework and the importance of grants in nonprofit sectors.Please click here to view my artifact.
