Competency 5

​

The fifth competency of the AU MPA program is “To communicate effectively with a diverse and changing workforce and citizenry”. The artifacts chosen for this competency is a book review assignment and a research project. Both the artifacts contribute to the sections of the artifacts

  1. Understanding the needs and values of specific communities in the United States

  2. Understanding and commitment to the values representing bureaucracy

 

Book Review Assignment

The book review assignment is chosen for the seminar in public administration coursework. The chosen book is “The New Public Service” by Denhardt and Denhardt. The book talks about the new public service which is to be followed by communities at present and future. Working on a review for this book helps understand the values representing democracy. In ways, such that this book compares new and old public service, which helps understand the old and the new public service as a citizen of another country and learn about the public service exhibited in the United States. MPA Research Project

The second artifact chosen for this competency is the research project done for the MPA research project coursework. My project focuses on the financial situation of the local government in handling the drainage situation of it’s communities. This research focuses on a broad perspective on what enables cities to act and control the unexpected drainage situations in their respective communities.  This artifact not only helps me understand the values of specific communities but the nature of local government communities as a whole. This project enables me to dig in deep in the various branches of local government and help understand the laws enabling legislation which restricts or approves the activities of the local government. The problem statement which is attached as an artifact helps understand the problem situation and the research associated to it. Please click here to view artifact.
